Pune Suburban Service also known as Pune Suburban Railway or Pune Local Railway is a service run by Central Railways department of Indian Railways to connect Pune city to its suburbs and neighboring villages in Pune District in Maharashtra State.

Services

Pune's suburban service operate on two major routes, i.e. from Pune Junction to Lonavala and from Pune Junction to Talegaon. There are 3 trains which operate on Pune - Talegaon route while 17 trains operate on Pune - Lonavala route. Important stations on this route are Shivajinagar, Khadki, Pimpri, Chinchwad, Akurdi, Dehu Road, Talegaon, Lonavala. This service is expected to change and few trains will be terminated at Shivajinagar Station between 11:30 to 3:20.^[1]

Proposed Pune - Daund Route

This is a proposed route for many years. Just like Lonavla many people travel from Daund to Pune City for work. This route was proposed for the convenience of people of Daund and the villages on this route. However many years have passed since this proposal but this service does not operate even today. Instade of suburban trains four shuttle trains operate on this route between Pune and Daund and through trains like Pune-Baramati shuttle, Pune-Manmad passenger, Pune-Nizamabad passenger and two shuttle trains between Pune to Solapur are useful for people on this route to access Pune City.

Proposed Plans

The citizens are demanding Pune - Daund Suburban Service for many years. According to the proposals for 2010-11 Budget were as follows:

• To electrify Pune - Daund Section and start DMU service on Lonavala - Pune - Daund Section.
• To build separate platforms for Pune - Lonavla/Talegaon Dabhade services and increase the frequency to 30 min during peak hours and 45 min other time^[2].
• Introduction of Shuttle Service on Pune - Saswad Road Station - Jejuri / Nira / Satara Sector. This will operate every 3 hours with 2/3 wagons for goods.
• Third track for Pune - Lonavla Section.^[3] (Demand survey accepted in Budget 2011 - 12)
• To increase Two terminals on Pune - Lonavla and Pune - Daund Sections
• To start suburban service on Pune - Rajgurunagar patch after compelition of Pune - Nashik Road Railway for connectivity with New Pune International Airport
